The USDA begins to report the percent of the corn crop in the "dent" stage around the first week of August. Over the last 14 years, on average, about 25 percent of the crop has dented by the third week of August, about 50 percent has dented by September 1, and about 75 percent has dented by mid-September. To see what crop progress is for the 1999 crop, check the table labeled "1999 Crop Progress."
