The USDA begins to report the percent of the soybean crop that is "blooming" in mid-June. Over the last 18 years, on average, about 25 percent of the crop was in bloom by the second week of July, about 50 percent by the third week of July, and about 75 percent in bloom by the first week of August. To see what crop progress is for the 199 crop, check the table labeled "1999 Crop Progress." If you have Adobe's Acrobat Reader on your on your computer, a more extensive analysis of the soybean crop's yield prospects is available in pdf format under "1999 Soybean Crop Yield Outlook."
