| The USDA begins to report the percent of the soybean crop that is "dropping leaves" in late August. Over the last 14 years, on average, about 25 percent of the crop was dropping leaves by mid-September, about 50 percent by the third week of September, and about 75 percent dropping leaves by the end of September.
